Woodditton Walks

Woodditton walk 1. Court Barns Farm, 2 hours
- Start in Main Street Woodditton.
- Take a short walk in a westerly direction and go past the large white water tower
- Enter and walk along Camois Hall Lane, past the riding school through open farm gate into meadows with horse paddocks on each side. There are old farm buildings on the left and a meadow with ancient trees on the right
- Join a bridle way and walk for about a mile with farmland and small fir woodlands on each side.
- Join a public road at Court Barns Farm with a large green shed and concrete hard standing on the left.
- Walk about half a mile along the road uphill bearing left, up to a wooded area
- Turn left and go up steps to the top of Devil's Dyke.
- Walk for about a mile along the Dyke; this is the best section (image 9) of this ancient monument which has the highest bank and deepest ditch. This is mainly through wooded areas, but with some good views of the countryside .
- At the southern end turn right, take a short walk beside a field, then left across an arable field and past the rear of some house gardens
- Join Stetchworth Road and turn left past the white water tower and rejoin Main Street Woodditton.
Woodditton walk 2, The Three Blackbirds 1 hour
· Take the steps, taking care as there are lots of exposed tree roots . Follow the dyke for about half a mile until you meet a set of steps going down and footpath crossroads
- From the Three Blackbirds pub turn right onto the road, Ditton Green.
- Follow the footpath around the corner onto Stetchworth road and to the water tower .
- Turn right 100 metres up from the water tower at the wooden public footpath sign which indicates 'Reach 7.5 miles'
- Passing behind some back gardens follow the path through the middle of the field .
· Take the steps, taking care as there are lots of exposed tree roots . Follow the dyke for about half a mile until you meet a set of steps going down and footpath crossroads
- Turn right onto Icknield Way, a path which crosses between two fields.
- At the end of the field you will again meet some steps onto a track . Climb the steps and turn right following Icknield Way.
- After 400m, you will reach two turnings; one continuing straight on and one turning left up the hill Turn left continuing on Icknield way - there is a sign post, although not very obvious but is labelled with a left arrow indicating 'Icknield Way Trail'
- Once near the top of the hill, turn left onto a footpath along a side of a field, be sure to follow with the line of bushes on your right .
- When you reach the adjacent field, cross it following the footpath until you reach the opening on the opposite side
- Follow the winding footpath round and over a bridge until you arrive back at the starting point.
