Cheveley Walks

Cheveley walk 1 Cheveley Rec and back again, 1.5 hours (6k)
- Park at Cheveley recreation ground car park on High Street
- Turn right out of the car park and follow the pleasant village High Street to the Royal British Legion Club on the right past the Parish Church and about 10 minutes from the car park.
- Take the bridleway/Icknield Way. The first stretch may be a little muddy after rain but persevere you will soon reach some very nice walking surfaces.
- After about 0.5 km there is a gate on the left in to the stud this is where there is also the option to go straight on and follow bridleway/Icknield Way towards Woodditton and Stetchworth but that route is not included here.
- Follow the stud tracks past paddocks and well kept hedges.
- After about 300m bear left and immediately right so hedge is now on your right.
- Continue until you reach the pedestrian gate (to left of large gate).
- Cross Saxon Street Road with care onto the grass footpath opposite.
- Keep following the footpath to where it turns sharp left . Be careful because the way mark signs at this point are easily missed. This is also where there is the option to turn right through the gap in the hedge and follow the footpath across the fields towards Upend. That route is not included here.
- Follow the path with paddocks on both sides.
- After the second paddock the path turns left and continues until it emerges on to the public road at Oak Tree Corner.
- Cross with care and take Oak Lane.
- Continue back through the village, passing the village shop towards the recreation ground and car park.
Cheveley walk 2 path from Little Green, 1.5 hours (6k)
- Park at Cheveley recreation ground car park on High Street.
- Turn right out of the car park and follow the pleasant village High Street to Little Green on the left past the Parish Church and about 10 minutes from the car park.
- The footpath begins in the left corner of Little Green.
- The first stretch may be a little narrow when vegetation is growing fast but persevere you will soon reach some very nice walking surfaces.
- Emerge at Broad Green and turn left along the public highway.
- Continue for about 500m and take the footpath on the left by crossing the little bridge across the ditch.
- After 200m turn right onto stud road.
- After about another 100m turn left onto the grass track. (way marks are a bit faded here).
- Follow this wide grass track making a sharp right between pleasant hedges and occasional views across the countryside until the path goes sharp left and narrows running parallel to the public road.
- Walk in to Ashley Village (image 9) there is a short section where you will walk on the road – take care.
- Continue until you come to the footpath/Icknield Way on the left. After The Old Plough Restaurant but before the village shop which is just 25m beyond the entrance to the footpath if you need refreshment.
- Keep on this footpath, crossing the stud roads and continue back to Cheveley High Street
- Turn right and walk back to the car park at the recreation ground.
